SCIENTIFIC AND MATHEMATICAL LITERACY IN BASIC EDUCATION

This study aims to understand the factors that led low performance in proficiency and scientific mathematical literacy basic education, according results of last PISA, which statistically analyzes OECD countries Latin America Brazil is a part. As methodology adopted, literature, books, articles, statistical data from six years were analyzed, this exposed problem cannot be solved short or medium term, however, collectively solutions are necessary urgent, campaigns encourage reading, recycling, continuity teachers’ studies, professional development, reducing social inequalities, among others, actions will make all difference changing reality Brazilian students.
